Why is alcohol legal if it does more damage to the brain then marijuana? Doesn't alcohol affect people's behaviors and motor skills?
I do not know the answer to the first question but yes alcohol does affect people's behaviors and motor skills. I have seen the side affects from people driving drunk, while you haven't really heard about someone driving while they are high. If you have then I'd like to read about it and its side effects.
To answer your question you can be charged for driving under the influence while on the high of marijuana. It effects your depth perception which can cause accidents if you drive after smoking it. Of course it doesnt effect you in the same way or to the extreme level that alcohol does but you can still kill someome or yourself while under the influence of marijuana. Their are no deaths from overdoes of marijuana the only deaths are from accidents that are caused by the side effects of smoking it. The only reason that less people are caught and arrested while being under the influence of marijuana is because it's effects are harder to detect by just looking at a person you have to test them. Although less people are caught and arrested while under the influence of marijuana it is still a huge issue in how it effects your abilities to perform everyday functions.
ReplyDeleteYeah i would have to agree with sdehnbostel. There can be plenty of negative side affects to smoking marijuana. I don't know if you have take GPSYCH 101 the text book talks about the affects of marijuana on the brain. The text book is called "Exploring Psychology" by David G. Myers.
ReplyDeleteSmoking marijuana can be good, however. It has many medical benefits behind it and does not do the liver disease that alcohol can cause. I believe that maybe marijuana should be legal, but under the same type of restrictions that alcohol has; 21 to purchase it and you cannot drive under the influence.
ReplyDeleteThe reason marijuana is illegal is because of a man named Harry J. Anslinger. He basically started what is the equivilent of a Nazi propaganda campaign against marijuana. Anslinger saw drugs as the main problem but there had never been any precedent where the government could control what people did with their bodies. He knew if he could make one drug illegal he could get all of them illegal. He first attempted to ban marijuana by taxing it. He made it illegal to have marijuana on your person without a permit. But the only way to get a permit was to go to your local government building and apply for a liscence. But the only way you could get a license was if you had marijuana on your person. Once you showed them the marijuana they would arrest you for carrying marijuana without a license. (I know wild). Well eventually he got it to be illegal because his proganda machine worked so well that people to this day believe that "hash" causes people to become rapists and murders. Now as to why alcohol is illegal well that's because alcohol was never attacked as marijuana was. More people use alcohol so of course you had more people complaining when alcohol became illegal.
